We’ve won lots of advertising awards so we must be good. In fact, we’ve won so many that we’ve decided to bestow a title on ourselves in order that clients will understand how great we are. We can’t be ‘No.1 in Scotland’, because one of our Edinburgh-based rivals has already decided to award themselves that title. So instead, we’ll go for ‘Simply the Best Goddam Ad Agency Ever’. That should bring in the new business.

In our first post in this blog, I stated that we had now opened ourselves up to an audience of ’60 million or thereabouts’. It seems that we grossly underestimated the number of people now able to read our sage-like postings. My colleague Marie has helpfully pointed out that our worldwide audience is closer to 60 gazillion.

Monday Bloody Monday

It was The Boomtown Rats who opined ‘I don’t like Mondays’ and it could be surmised that the vast majority of the UK working population might agree with them.

Not so at Newhaven. We love Mondays. Monday ushers in a new working week that brings with it manifold possibilities and opportunities to foster new working relationships and increase the salience of the brands on which we weave our creative magic. In fact, when you’re a 24/7 agency like us, you prefer not to see Monday as the ‘start’ of anything, it’s just another slice of time in the great continuum of marketing communications.

I mean, just one look at today’s Meeting Maker is enough to fill me with inspiration:

Radical Rebrand

Newhaven has given several hundred thousand pounds to a shit-hot web design company – Molten Java – to redesign this blog site.

After months of to-ing and fro-ing, they’ve recommended a controversial move away from our old monochromatic WordPress ‘Hemingway’ template to this ‘Default’ WordPress Template with customised header. They say this radical rebrand will enable Newhaven to ’continue setting the web agenda by forging a new visual vernacular with the boundless blog community.’ And I, for one, am happy to pay big bucks for that.

If nothing else, this gives us a chance to get the word ‘vernacular’ into our Tag Cloud. We hope you are enjoying the fruits of their labours.

Shouting Quietly

We’ve decided that we need a big, bold statement that crystallizes what we do (ie. our BrandCraft). After a four hour BrainDump session in our local IdeaGym (Pearce’s Pub – there’s no better place for a spot of spontaneous, collaborative ThoughtWeaving) we came up with a great IntentMoniker:

Newhaven. Shouting Quietly.

This juxtaposition distills our unique approach to marketing communications into two simple words. We know that brands need to shout, they need to be heard, they need to cut through the AdNoise and the CommsFuzz. But the consumer will be turned off by brands that are too in-your-face. At Newhaven, we recognise this, and that’s why we’ll enable your brand to ‘Shout Quietly’. We can create a Cacophonous Murmur about your product or service. A Deafening Hush, if you will. That way, your brand will demand to be heard while simultaneously forging a conspiratorial intimacy with the consumer.

Or was it: ‘Whispering Loudly’?

I can’t remember. We got through a bit of wine.

Thinking Big

We’ve got a large artificial sunflower that spans three floors in our agency building. Not only does it cheer people up, it shows that we are:

(a) a bit whacky

(b) open to big ideas

(d) what happened to (c)

We also have a large tomato and an oversized gnome.

Tea Revels?

See, we’re always having radical, lateral thoughts like this. That’s the kind of ‘switched-on’ people we are. Always questioning. Always alive to new possibilities. It oozes out of our pores.

But we’re not selfish with our inspired thoughts. We’re happy to enrich your life by sharing our insights with you on this blog.

Here’s another nugget for free: why don’t they invent waterproof Post-It notes, so divers can leave messages for each other on underwater coral reefs and shipwrecks?

Sometimes this stuff is right in front of your face.
